Congratulations Emma Hand on Ireland Basketball call up!!

9th October 2019

Over the past couple of years, Killina has been privileged to have students or past students representing the country in different disciplines, with Grainne Walsh in boxing, and Becky Watkins in soccer.

The latest sports star to make a national squad is Emma Hand in TY.

Congratulations Emma, and wishing you and your teammates the very best of luck.

From the Basketball Ireland website-

Head coach of the Ireland U17 women’s team, Karl Kilbride, has announced a squad of 24 players who will continue forward with the team.

Speaking about the announcement, Coach Kilbride stated: “We had a great turnout in Limerick on Sunday at the talent session, and we were pretty blown away by the overall standard and talent-level in attendance. It shows that basketball in Ireland is on a really exciting footing. However, it also made our life far more difficult than we were expecting in making this decision.

“As there always are with these processes, I’m sure there are players who are going to be very disappointed. I would encourage them to use this small setback as motivation to help them push on, and make sure that next time around, they go that step further. For the players who have progressed, they have a brilliant opportunity ahead of them. We’re really excited to start work with this group of 24 players. We get to spend a year working hard on individual development, giving them a great international experience; and trying to help put them in the best possible position to progress to next year’s U18 Euros squad. We can’t wait to get started.”
