Dear Parent(s) / Guardian(s),
I hope that all students and their families have enjoyed a good rest during the summer. As we approach the beginning of a new school year, I would like to bring the following to your attention:
School re-opening arrangements;
The school will re-open for staff on Thursday 27 August. First year students will begin on Monday 31 August. Mentors are to attend for training on Friday 28 August as arranged and are to be in school from 11am on Monday 31 and they are to wear full uniform.
Tuesday 1 September, the following should attend:
All 1 year students
All 6 year students
All 2 year students
Wednesday 2 September, the following should attend:
All 1 years, 6 years and 2 years,
All 5 year students
All 3 year students.
Buses will operate on Monday 31 August.
New entrants to the Special Class should attend on Monday 8 September.
School uniform:
See sheet re: uniform sent in June
Please not that only black or navy shoes are acceptable as part of the uniform. The following are not acceptable in terms of appearance and/or safety.
Wearing make up
Bleaching/highlighting/colouring hair – keep hair its natural colour.
Wearing platform shoes
Wearing of jewellery/body piercings other than a watch, one small finger ring, a pair of small earrings for girls.
Wearing skirts that are too short – “skirts to be worn as bought”.
Books:
Books will be provided in the school in September through the book rental scheme. The cost is €120 per child for the 1 two children in a family and €100 for each subsequent child. Each student must purchase a customised school journal which will be available in school in September. The cost of the journal is included in the administration fee.
Any student who neglected to return their books are asked to do so without delay as the books are required for incoming 1 year students.
New Staff:
We welcome Mr Liam Hennelly to the staff
School Calendar:
A detailed calendar of school holidays is enclosed. Dates for parent teacher meetings etc. will be sent out over the coming weeks.
Smoking
Smoking and possession of tobacco or tobacco products, the sanction for which is immediate suspension is not permitted at any time on school grounds.
Mobile phones
Mobile phones constitute a distraction, a nuisance and have been proven to be a potential source of bullying. They are also an easy target for theft.
They are unnecessary in the school context as students may be given permission to use the school phone in case of emergency. Equally, if parents/guardians need to get an urgent message to a student this can be done through the office. Accordingly, the school rule regarding mobile phones will be strictly enforced.
School Environment
Chewing gum is a blight on the school environment. Chewing gum will not be tolerated. Anyone found with chewing gum will be fined and will have to carry out cleaning duties, most likely related to removal of chewing gum. As chewing gum became a problem during the past year, these sanctions will be strictly enforced during the coming year.
Over the summer months, the caretaking and cleaning staff have put a huge effort into the preparation of the school for students’ return in August. I would ask all students to respect the very pleasant environment and to help maintain the school campus during the coming year.
Finally, I would like to thank all parents/ guardians who continue to support the school, your co-operation is much appreciated and contributes to the efficient running of the school.
