Uniform:

The wearing of the uniform so far this year has been very good and we look forward to the continued co-operation of parents and students in this regard in 2009.
The wearing of jewellery is to be kept to the prescribed minimum. Students are not to bring mobile phones to school. Hair is not to be highlighted, coloured or bleached - keep hair its natural colour.

Mock Examinations:

The Junior and Leaving Certificate Mock Exams will be timetabled to finish before the February mid-term break i.e. 13 February.

State Exam Fees fro 2009

Leaving Cert €109, Junior Cert €103 - payable in February.
Waiver of Exam Fees for Medical Card Holders with a Medical Card
valid on 1 February 2009.


New Science Room:

Work is progressing well on the building of the new science room, block work is complete, roof is on and windows are fitted.

School Tour:

A school tour to Germany and Austria is planned for the mid -term break in October. Deposits have been paid and all places allocated.


Art News:

5th year leaving certificate art students were fortunate to have two trips this term in conjunction with their Art History course work. The first took place on 15 October 2008, to visit the passage grave at Newgrange in the Boyne Valley, Co. Meath. The guided tour took them into the heart of the famous passage grave to view first hand the Neolithic artwork, which was luminated to replicate the winter solstice sunrise.
The second, more recent visit was on 5 December to the Hugh Lane art gallery in Parnell Square, Dublin. The tour guide showed the students paintings from the Hugh Lane bequest as part of the gallery’s centenary exhibition and the Francis Bacon ‘studio’ exhibition. The guide finished with a tour of the newest ‘white cube’ gallery space where conceptual art is on display.

First Year Summer tests:

Parents of 1 years are reminded that places in Higher Level classes in 2 year Irish, English and Maths will be allocated on the basis of results attained in the Summer tests in these subjects

2 years: Friday 27 February 1.00pm – 3.30pm

English Department News:

2 and 3 year honours classes both travelled to the Helix, DCU during November to see “The Merchant of Venice” 5th year Honours classes will travel to see “King Lear” on the night of March 16.
Well done to 1K English class who completed a project on Emo Court, run by the Laois Education Centre, and were presented with certificates at an exhibition of projects in Portlaoise on December 2.

Killina Parents Association:

The Annual Christmas Draw was held on Monday 15 December. The Parents Association would like to thank all the students who sold tickets, the parents, staff and all who supported the draw and the sponsors who donated prizes. There were 21 lucky winners with students Nicole Minnock, Daryl Troy, Ciaran Buckley and Michelle Guinan winning the sellers prizes
